Stand2020

In addition to a great developer room, we would like to team up with our friends at Cryptpad in order to propose a stand for the FOSDEM.

Proposal (will be sent to FOSDEM organizers)

For many years, the XWiki project [1] has been present at FOSDEM on the "Wiki and CMS" software stand, and last year we have teamed up with Cryptpad for a common stand of the projects. For 2020, we would like to keep the formula, as it has turned out to be very well recieved by participants. The reason why we would like to apply for this stand with the Cryptpad project, and not any other Open Source project, is simply because our two development teams share several developers that are involved in both XWiki and Cryptpad.

Today, we would like to present the XWiki project not as a simple wiki anymore, but more as a web development framework that you can use to build knowledge-related applications on top of it. Having the experience of last year, such a stand is a great medium showcase the software and its customizations easily. Experience with the previous FOSDEM edition has shown that this is usually one of the most requested demands that we get: people come up and ask about how they can solve a specific problem on their instance. XWiki currently registers about 5000 unique instances (that are accessible publicly, ie not behind a firewall) and has an ecosystem of over 750 extensions. Other presentations have already been performed about the XWiki project during past FOSDEM editions, see [3], [4], [5], [6] and [7]. We've been present at FOSDEM since 2006 and it's a chance for use to be able to participate to it each year.

With the stand we also want to give more visibility to the Cryptpad project: it's a collaborative online document editor built with privacy in mind; each document that you edit on the platform is encrypted in your browser and then sent to the server in such a way that the server admin cannot access the content of your document. The idea with this project is to present a FOSS alternative to equivalent cloud-based solutions distributed by mostly US companies. We already gave a couple of talks about Cryptpad during the last edition of FOSDEM, see [4]. Today, the main instance of Cryptpad has around 11 000 visitors per week (unique IPs) and hosts about 660 000 documents.

Please do not hesitate to get back to us if you need more information regarding our application.
